Staff Spotlight of the Week is Kindergarten Teaching Assistant, Janice Greenslade. This is Janice’s 7th year at ACS as Mrs. Ford’s Assistant and Janice’s 10th year as an ACS mom. With her youngest son, Rhett, set to promote from the current 8th grade class, Janice’s three children are, or will all soon be, ACS Alumni. Janice is a graduate of the University of Alberta, Canada where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Anthropology and New Mexico State University, Las Cruces where she earned a Master’s Degree in Anthropology.

“I would love to share two of the things that I enjoy most about being a Kindergarten Teaching Assistant. First, there is something magical that seems to happen for many kindergartners about three quarters of the way through the school year. About this time, many students truly begin to grasp how to write their thoughts and ideas down on paper in a manner that a reader can understand. The children use inventive spelling to sound out their words, they understand the need to put spaces between words so that the reader knows where each word begins and ends, they remember to start a sentence with a capital letter and they know that there are a variety of available options in terms of punctuation. Somehow these things seem to click and the sheer joy and excitement on the children’s faces is nothing short of wonderful. The second thing that I absolutely love about being in kindergarten is the opportunity to dance on a regular basis, on the spur of the moment or at the drop of a hat. Kindergartners dance with little regard to how they look, rather they simply enjoy how it feels and these sweet, sweet kiddos never seem to criticize my own dance moves … who could ask for anything more?” - Janice Greenslade

Staff Spotlight of the Week is office manager, Lashonta Sanders. This is LaShonta's 5th year at ACS and 2nd year as an office manager. She is a Columbus native and a graduate of Columbus High School. She has earned a Bachelor's degree from the Mississippi University for Women and is currently obtaining her Master's Degree at Mississippi State University.

Staff Spotlight of the Week is Spanish teacher, Leslie (Sanchez) Jones. This is Leslie's first year teaching at ACS. She is a graduate of University of Oregon where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Pepperdine University where she received a Master of Arts in Psychology. Spanish is her native language and she has a love for the language and cultures of Spanish speaking countries. She is ethically Mexican; her parents immigrated from the Mexican states of Puebla (father) and Zacatecas (mother). She was raised in Los Angeles where she learned to read and write in Spanish. Leslie's late mother-in-law, Paula Jones Lavender, taught 3rd grade at ACS for many years before her passing.

"I feel privileged to have the opportunity to add to the Jones legacy at the school where she loved to teach! I am excited about my opportunity to teach at ACS and look forward to working with all the students. My goal is to broaden the students' knowledge of the Spanish language and help them grow in their academics and Christian values." - Leslie Jones

Staff Spotlight of the Week is visual arts teacher, Katie McDill. This is Katie's second year at ACS. She is an ACS alumna herself! She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts from MUW in 2005, and this is her 13th year to teach visual arts.

Staff Spotlight of the Week is 7th grade homeroom and middle school science teacher, Rebekah Hamric. This is Rebekah's second year as part of the Annunciation Catholic Family. This is her seventh year teaching. She previously taught biology for five years in public high school, which has allowed her to help our middle school students with their transition to high school academics. She is a Columbus native, and graduated from New Hope High School. She has Bachelor’s degree in Biology and a Master’s of Education from Mississippi University for Women.

Staff Spotlight of the Week is 5th grade teacher, Morgan Bergeron. Morgan teaches 5th grade math, science, and religion. This is her second year at ACS, and first year to teach 5th grade. She is originally from Lafayette, Louisiana, where she attended the University of Louisiana and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, with an add-on in Elementary Education, certifying her for prek-fifth grade. Morgan and her husband moved to Columbus in the summer of 2017 with her husband's job, where she discovered ACS and began as an inclusion teacher shortly thereafter.

Tickets are $100 and each ticket admits two adults (21 and older) and includes: dinner catered by Huck's restaurant, live music by Win-wheel, open bar, and a chance to win $10,000. Second chance insurance is also available. Only 300 tickets will be sold. Tickets can be purchased from the school office, scrip box, or any ACS advisory board member. 

Parent Incentive: If you would like to sell event tickets, contact Katie Fenstermacher. For every two event tickets you sell, you will receive one hour of volunteer credit. There will also be other opportunities to volunteer. Please be on the lookout for more info.

Optional spring pictures will be taken on Friday, March 22nd. Spring pictures are typically taken in non-uniform clothes. If you are planning to purchase spring pictures, your child does not have to wear a uniform on March 22nd. Siblings can be photographed together. If you would like your children photographed together, please make a note in their planners.
